Scope of Work:

Responsible for the operation, maintenance and installation of telecommunication and related communications systems supporting range operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Accomplishes assigned tasks independently in accordance with overall project objectives and requirements.
  • Performs operation, maintenance, and installation of open-wire, fiber optic, carrier cable, microwave communication, tactical radio, weapons scoring and range instrumentation systems.
  • Examines work orders and wiring diagram to determine installation or repair procedures.
  • Inspects connections, fittings, and installed wire and cable sections for conformance to specifications.
  • Installs, tests, and repairs communications equipment, such as intercom systems, wired alarms, switchboards, telegraphs, and telephones using schematic diagrams, testing devices, and hand tools.
  • Tests newly installed equipment and repairs or replaces faulty equipment, utilizing complex test equipment.
  • Assist Engineers, Field Engineer and sub-contractor with installation of equipment as directed by CIS Manager.
  • Maintains equipment and analyzes operational malfunctioning with testing devices, such as oscilloscopes, generators, meters, and electric bridges, to locate and diagnose nature of defect and necessary repairs.
  • Examines mechanism and disassembles components to replace, clean, adjust or repair parts, wires, switches, relays, circuits, or signaling units.
  • May repair cable; lay out plans for new equipment and estimate materials required.
  • Assists with installation of LAN/WAN equipment, wiring, and topography including such items as switches and routers.
  • Assists Government with CMS duties as required.
  • Documents maintenance actions in IEMS.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain minimum secret level security clearance.
  • Four years’ experience in Telecommunications and Range Scoring systems installation, operations, and maintenance
  • Specialty Code 48 – Telecommunications Management – Intermediate/Journeyman and Security+
  • Four years’ experience in the following disciplines/equipment:
    • Voice and data communications systems
    • Administration and configuration of communication network systems.
    • Digital communications networks
    • Multiplexer equipment
    • VHF/UHF tactical radios
    • Microwave data links
      • Remote Link Monitoring systems
      • Transmitters
      • Receivers
      • Antennas and feed line systems
    • Fiber-optic equipment
    • Networking, routers, switches, repeaters and DSUs
    • Video to digital converters
    • Power Systems
      • Auto- transfer (UPS) equipment
      • DC power supplies
      • Low voltage AC equipment
      • Primary and secondary power equipment
    • Weapons Scoring Systems
      • Electro-Optical equipment
        • Cameras
        • IR sensors
      • Video signal processing and recording
      • Video surveillance systems
      • PTZ
    • Telephone/Network Switches
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Formal classroom education equivalent to Navy “C” School or vocational school with formal training in the field of electronic equipment maintenance and equipment manufacturer training
  • Tower climbing training
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Complete various DoD and corporate reoccurring training requirements, to include Information Assurance Training, CPR, and First Aid
  • Must be able to work independently and interact well with others in a team setting.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented
  • Excellent MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills

Work Environment

  • Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
  • Routine travel to remote site facilities may be involved.
  • Work is occasionally performed in a shop or other facility environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.
