KIRA awarded SHARPS certification
Colorado Springs, CO, March 23, 2009 - KIRA has been awarded SHARP certification, from OSHA, for the company's Fort Carson, Colorado project site. The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system. Acceptance into SHARP by OSHA is an achievement of status that singles out businesses as models for worksite safety and health. KIRA's Fort Carson project site will be exempt from programmed inspections until recertification in March of 2010. KIRA provides base operation support services for the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Carson, Colorado under this 10-year contract.

For the fourth consecutive year, KIRA has been named as one of South Florida’s Top 100 Minority Businesses
Miami, FL, March 12, 2009 - The Top 100 Minority Businesses awards recognize companies that demonstrate “achievements in overall growth, as well as excellence in innovation, employee workplace initiatives, commitment to diversity, corporate citizenship and future expansion plans." On March 12th all of the companies that were selected were honored at a luncheon celebration held in Miami.  KIRA was named the Most Innovative Large Company in 2008 and the Top Company for Diversity in 2007. KIRA nominated for Florida Trend's Top Private Companies
KIRA was nominated for Florida Trend’s Top Private Companies. This is an exclusive list of the state’s 200 largest privately-held companies ranked by 2008 revenue. Florida Trend, which is currently in its 51st year, is Florida's leading business publication. Check back in late May 2009 when Florida Trend announces the winner in their June 2009 issue.

KIRA nominated for SECAF's Small Business Partner of the Year award
KIRA was nominated for the Small and Emerging Contractors Advisory Forum's (SECAF) Small Business Partner of the Year award. This award honors companies that have established and actively support mentorships, teaming and partnerships with small and emerging contractors. Companies will be honored at The First Annual SECAF Awards Gala at the Hilton McLean on April 16, 2009.

South Florida Business Leaders
Carlos Garcia, CEO and Owner, and Bobby Bennett, Senior Vice President, were nominated for Business Leader Magazine awards.  Carlos was named as a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year this award honors entrepreneurs who have made the greatest impact in the business community.  Mr. Garcia will be featured in Business Leader magazine as an outstanding entrepreneur and will be recognized at an award reception in late March. Bobby Bennett was nominated for Business Leader of the Year which honors the top business leaders in southern Florida.

KIRA has been awarded the Silver Performance Level, Overall Safety Award by PLANET

KIRA is recognized on the Hispanic Business Magazine's 100 Fastest-Growing Companies List
The 2008 Hispanic Business Magazine 100 Fastest-Growing Companies has been released and KIRA is pleased to announce that the company is ranked #57. This is KIRA's fourth straight year on the list, having moved up three spots in 2008 from the 2007 ranking. A determining factor for the list is growth. Consideration was given to ownership (must be at least 51% Hispanic US citizen owned), office location, (must be based out of the 50 US States), and revenue. Download list here.

KIRA ranks in the Top 500
For the fourth year in a row, Hispanic Business Magazine has named KIRA one of the top 500 minority-owned businesses in the United States. KIRA has been moving up the rankings during the past several years and now ranks #87, up twenty-seven spots from last year. To be considered for the Top 500, which measures both performance and progress, you must be headquartered in the U.S. and ownership needs to be at least 51% Hispanic U.S. citizen.

KIRA receives top honors in the South Florida "Good to Great" Awards
It was announced in March 2008 that KIRA was named as the winner of the 2008 South Florida Good to Great Awards in the 250 to 999 employee category. This program showcases the spirit of businesses with demonstrated success throughout the South Florida region. KIRA is honored to be recognized with previous finalists and winners such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Lines.

KIRA makes the Inc. 100 Fastest Growing Inner City Companies List
The 2008 ICIC-Inc. Magazine Inner City 100 list has been released, and KIRA is ranked #56 on the list of the fastest growing inner-city companies in America. Extraordinary growth is the predominant trait of the 2008 Inner City 100, a ranking created by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) and Inc. Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce names KIRA as the Most Innovative Large Company in Florida
KIRA is proud to announce that the company has received first place honors in the Top 100 Minority Business Awards, presented by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. KIRA, the preeminent military base facilities maintenance and construction contractor, was presented with the award for Most Innovative Company in the Large Company Division. The company was recognized for finding innovative ways to deliver their services at reduced prices, while achieving savings and employing them company-wide to deliver more value to customers. The awards program honors South Florida's minority business community and celebrates the region's rich diversity and spirit of entrepreneurship.         

2007 - KIRA was named the Top Minority Owned Business for Diversity by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. KIRA was also recognized as the Top 100 Minority Owned Businesses for 2007.

Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year nomination
Carlos Garcia was nominated for the 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.  This awards program was created in 1986 to honor entrepreneurs whose ingenuity and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing business ventures.  Currently this program recognizes entrepreneurs in 135 cities in 50 countries.

2007 Hispanic Business Entrepreneur of the Year
KIRA, the preeminent military base operations, facilities maintenance and construction contractor, announced its president and CEO, Carlos Garcia, was recognized by Hispanic Business Magazine as Entrepreneur of the Year. Garcia, on behalf of KIRA and its employees, took top honors in both Heavy Industry and overall Hispanic Business Entrepreneur of the Year categories.

"After more than 20 years of providing base support services to our government, KIRA has matured into an efficiency machine, setting the standard for saving the government money through cost-cutting subcontracting contracts, while providing the best in people, technology, resources and knowledge," said Garcia. Inc. places KIRA on the 2007 Southeast 500 Fastest Growing Companies
KIRA has been named by Inc. Magazine and Inc.com as the one of the fastest-growing private companies in the Southeast region of the United States. Ranked #340, the company is honored to have been recognized for its commitment to growing an organization, as well as employees, dedicated to providing the lowest cost, highest quality services to the government.

KIRA named on the Top 100 Latino Entrepreneur
Hispanic Enterprise named KIRA as one of the Top 100 Latino Entrepreneurs in the December/January 2008 issue. This annual listing is comprised of Hispanic-owned companies with the highest growth in revenues from year to year.

Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year nomination
Carlos Garcia was nominated by Bank of America for the 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes entrepreneurs who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement.  The globally recognized Ernest and Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards have honored entrepreneurial achievement for over 20 years.

Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year Nominations
Carlos Garcia was nominated for Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Hispanic Business Magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year award celebrates entrepreneurial excellence in the U.S. Hispanic market.  Entrepreneurs are chosen from the categories of Heavy Industry, InfoBusiness, Trade Industry, Rising Star and Latina.

Carlos was named a finalist in the Heavy Industry category in 2005 and 2007.

Inc. 5000
KIRA has been ranked #1908 on the inaugural 2007 Inc. 5000. Introduced in 1982, the Inc. 500 list recognizes the fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States.  This list was expanded in order to give readers a "deeper, richer understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and capturing a broader spectrum of success." 

Fastest Growing South Florida Business
KIRA was named to the GBS Eagles program, an exclusive network of entrepreneurs, advisors and capital sources tasked with promoting successful business practices in the Southeast U.S. In addition to meeting specific criteria, companies named GBS Eagles have been extremely successful in overcoming critical issues throughout their business lifecycles.

Small Business Contractor of the Year
The U.S. Small Business Administration awards the Contractor of the Year to a small business every year in order to recognize their outstanding contributions and services to the nation, in satisfying the goals of the Federal procurement system.  In 2002 KIRA received the Small Business Administration's coveted Contractor of the Year award at our Fort Knox project site. In 2007 KIRA was again nominated for Contractor the Year by Fort Belvoir and Carlos Garcia was nominated for the Small Business Person of the Year.

2006 Hispanic Business of the Year
The Asian American Business Roundtable named KIRA as the Hispanic-Owned Business of the Year. This award showcases the "best of the best" in Hispanic entrepreneurship.  Asian American Business Roundtable recognized the awardees in Rockville, Maryland on November 10, 2006 at the Dinner Awards Night.  Asian American Business Roundtable was established in 1989 to help Asian and other minority-owned business expand their market base with the Federal Government.

2005 Entrepreneur of the Year Nomination
Carlos Garcia, Owner, President and CEO of KIRA was nominated for Hispanic Business magazine's 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year award. The award ceremony and gala was held on November 10, 2005 at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, California.

Competition was intense among the three entrepreneurs nominated in the "Heavy Industry" category and fifteen individuals total for Entrepreneur of the Year. While Garcia did not walk away with accolades in either his category of the overall Entrepreneur of the Year, he was pleased to have been honored and competing against individuals throughout the nation in different industries. His colleagues, while being recognized as some of the top entrepreneurs of Hispanic decent in the United States, are in fact, some of the top entrepreneurs in the nation; regardless of ethnicity.                                               

South Florida Business Journal's 2006 Technology Awards
KIRA is honored to receive the Pinnacle Award by the South Florida Business Journal. South Florida Business Journal recognizes companies that have a proven track record of innovative business practices and a unique company culture.  Winning companies also demonstrate community involvement and implement business growth models.
